The NeuroFit Process

What is NeuroFit?

NeuroFit is an advanced neurofeedback and brain health program at Recovery in Oklahoma. It combines advanced software that analyzes brain activity with the expertise of our licensed neurotherapists who are trained in creating an individualized treatment plan to address a client’s specific needs.

NeuroFit is a four-part process. Here is an overview of how we customize a solution for each client:

Assessment

The first step in solving any issue is to accurately identify the problem.

We start by assessing and understanding your physical, psychological, and social history. We use a combination of screening and assessment tools to clearly identify your specific strengths and areas of need. This also includes discussing one-to-one personal thoughts and background to better understand how a client is feeling and what they are experiencing.

We then do a scan of the brain and compare it to a database of healthy brain function to identify areas of over or under activity.

The brain often shows various types of dysfunctional activity, known as biomarkers. These biomarkers reflect part of how the brain works, thereby confirming an underlying disorder.

By comparing those disorders to a healthy brain function, we can then identify and treat a variety of issues.

Treatment Planning

Sample Protocol Recommendation

With an assessment in hand, the NeuroFit team can then build an exclusive treatment plan individualized to your specific needs. This could
include brain training, suggested supplements, changes in diet, recommended medication prescribed by your doctor, or a combination of these.

Treatment plans may include tools to challenge old thinking patterns, problem behaviors, and of course, training to correct brain activity that may be interfering with your goals. While some providers use generic “cookie-cutter” protocols, we use a customized approach. Nearly every protocol we develop is unique to the individual. For example, a client may be suffering from multiple problems such as anxiety, depression, and insomnia. In those cases, we’ll help identify the protocol that we believe will provide the most significant improvement in the shortest period of time.

Advanced Neurofeedback

NeuroFit Brain Training

Think of neurofeedback as a learning process. It is a skill, and just like playing the piano or shooting baskets, it takes practice to become an expert. For many clients, it will take multiple sessions to start seeing progress as the brain is being asked to learn new skills.

When we look at brainwaves, we are looking for areas of the brain that are not working as efficiently as they should be. This may mean that there are areas of your brain that are working too hard, or areas that are not working hard enough. Each area of your brain is responsible for a specific function such as motor movement, speech, emotional processing, or decision-making.

When one of these areas is not working as efficiently as it should be, clients may experience this as a problem in day-to-day functioning, or what we may call a “symptom.”
During training, clients will be asked to relax and concentrate on certain routines or tasks.

During a session, a clinician will place sensors called electrodes on the scalp. The sensors read the electrical signal that the brain produces. Patients will not feel anything from these sensors as they are passive. Just as a thermometer’s job is to measure the body’s temperature, the only job of the electrode is to measure your brain’s natural activity.

The clinician will monitor the brain’s activity and use the computer to ask the brain to perform more efficiently. When the computer detects that the brain is performing more efficiently, a response will be shown through a tone, sound, or an image on the screen.

The results of training are turned into numerical scores to better determine if progress has been made. Over time, these scores can easily determine patterns of improvement and where more changes can be made.

The NeuroFit Difference

In short, not all neurofeedback is created equal. There are significant differences in training, approach, and equipment among providers.
